Pacific Dunlop - Improve Profitability

KEY GOALS:
Improving profitability within the industrial division.

CHALLENGES:
This was already a well established company with long term employees and long term customers who were major engineering and mining companies. Profitability at the bottom line was being under achieved and there was pressure at board level to improve.

EVT's APPROACH:
EVT analysed the business and developed a performance improvement programme that included the entire company and all of its operational units, each unit was individually targeted, which in turn was linked to their element of productivity that would improve the overall profitability.

The programme was launched by the MD and driven by all management within the organisation. The commercial message was constantly top of mind for staff as ongoing communication was sent to each individual on a regular basis.

Key area that was identified to improve Dunlopes profitability was the collection of outstanding debts.

OUTCOME:
Through EVT’s evaluation process it was identified that debt collection was 60% within 90 to 120 days. EVT set targets of 5% within the first year of the programme, which was achieved and in the second year to 3%, which was also achieved.

Overall targets were met, which automatically identified a profit year - one of 169% on the bottom line.
